What does it take to turn a father’s love into a nationwide beacon of excellence? For Ronovan “Ron” Chaisson, the journey began not in a boardroom, but in a living room, fueled by a simple yet profound desire: to ensure his daughters had a roadmap for their future.
In a feature with Voyage Dallas (originally published in March 2025), Ron shared the intimate story of how Clearpath Discovery evolved from a family mission into a transformative 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has now empowered over 100 students across the country. Today, we’re diving deeper into that conversation to explore the heart behind the organization and the legacy being built for the next generation.
The Seed of an Idea: A Father’s Promise
Every great movement starts with a single "why." For Ron, that "why" was his daughters, Yasmine and Evelyn. At ages 9 and 11, Ron realized that many young people drift through their formative years without a clear sense of direction. He refused to let that be their story.
"I didn’t want my children to grow up not having a plan for what they wanted to do with their lives." : Ron Chaisson
He began asking them the tough, exploratory questions that we now use in our Dreamchazer program. What is your favorite subject? What type of work would you do for free? For Yasmine, who navigates life with dyslexia, the goal was to show the world that a diagnosis is not a limitation but a unique perspective. For Evelyn, it was about finding a way to weave her passion for dance into a viable future.
Ron’s approach was strategic. He didn't just talk; he acted. As an Accountant, he taught them budgeting. As a mentor, he helped them set short-term and long-term goals, literally framing them on the wall so they were the first thing his daughters saw every morning. This blend of practical life skills and aspirational dreaming is what eventually became the DNA of Clearpath Discovery.
From Accountant to Visionary Mentor

Ron Chaisson is a man of many hats: a multi-talented professional whose background is as diverse as the career paths we offer. With over 15 years as an Accountant, having worked with the State of Texas Economic Development, Neiman Marcus, and Arnold Palmer/Century Golf, Ron brings a level of financial discipline to our programs that is rare in the nonprofit space.
But he isn’t just about the numbers. Ron is also a professional wedding singer and an amateur actor. This unique combination of analytical "left-brain" expertise and creative "right-brain" passion allows him to connect with students from all walks of life. Whether a student dreams of being a CPA or a performer, Ron has walked those halls.
The Turning Point: Port Arthur to Dallas
One of the most poignant moments in the Voyage Dallas interview was Ron’s reflection on his childhood. Moving from the small town of Port Arthur, Texas, to the sprawling city of Dallas at age 15 was a seismic shift. As a basketball standout, leaving a "powerhouse system" like Port Arthur Lincoln High felt like a loss at the time.
"I believe it was God saying you’ll understand it later," Ron reflects. That transition taught him about resilience and the necessity of "uprooting" to find a larger purpose. It was this move that eventually allowed him to create the "bridge" his daughters: and now your students: cross to reach their potential.
The Five Pillars of Clearpath Discovery
Clearpath isn't just a career counseling service; it is a holistic empowerment system. Our mission is to provide unprecedented clarity through five core components:
Career Readiness: Equipping students with the tools to navigate the modern job market.
Career Mentoring: Connecting students with experienced professionals, like our Career Mentor of the Year, Alexis Richardson.
Financial Wellness: Leveraging Ron’s accounting background to teach educational wealth and credit building.
Social Activities: Building community through events and peer engagement.
Summer Ambassador Job Program: Providing real-world employment opportunities to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Through our WIN Learning System, we offer access to over 700 nationwide career paths, including unique tracks in the military, trades, and entrepreneurship.

Overcoming Obstacles: The Work Continues
Building a legacy is never a smooth road. Ron was candid about the challenges Clearpath faces, particularly regarding funding and the need for more volunteers in marketing and business development. Since the inception in May 2018, much of the funding has come directly from Ron himself and a handful of dedicated parents.
Why do we keep pressing on? Because the results are tangible. We have seen students discover their "why," secure scholarships, and embark on college tours that change their entire perspective on what is possible.
